I have explored Whitworth several times with the walks for health project that I ran for a few years in Rossendale, so put some routes together to create this walk for the Out Walk. Crossing up over Waingap, we get great views over the valley before crossing to the opposite side to Cowm reservoir and then along the old railway line to Healey Dell Nature Reserve. It an autumn day to the trees will be turning all sorts of colours which be fascinating to see.

Old track ways can be found where horse and cart took materials to the mills, quarries and farms. Stone walls formed from large slaps of stone. History hidden but visible if you look for it. Today the reservoir see's boats using as a leisure activity takes place.
As we pass Near Cowlcough, the track way from the mill would lead through this small area back down into the valley, likely connecting to the main road below to Rochdale. Places like this can have an eerie feel of lost memories as once people and life lived here, know it empty but for the odd walkers coming through.
